I have never seen a Violet-Green Swallow on the ground but this little guy was lying right by the side of the trail at Lily Lake in RMNP. I had never seen one up so close that I could see his brilliant coloring.

I got my camera out and clicked away, hoping that he wasn’t hurt. He just lay there and looked at us…and everyone else who passed by.

His coloring was just beautiful! Isn’t he gorgeous?

After about 10 minutes, he got up and flew away. What a fun experience!

Gorgeous bird and great picture. It’s a violet-green swallow though. Tree swallows are a bit larger and are an irridescent blackish blue.

I would call him resplendent, Mel. Wow, Mother Nature busy creating such beauty! You do live in the Garden Of Eden. Bless you for sharing these treasures. They are so uplifting.

ditto what carrie and manny wrote.

despite this birds location, a lesson to look up more often.

Awesome photo. I need to look up the function of iridenscense in bird’s feathers’. It seems every aspect of the natural world has a working purpose.
