This is Part II of my Ptarmigan story from yesterday’s Blog.

As this Ptarmigan meandered down the Medicine Bow Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park, it stopped and cocked its head and looked up at me. He was so cute…and only about 5 feet away!

He proceeded to peck around and then clean himself in the dirt. He put on quite a show rolling around and flapping his feathers! I had never seen one do this before.

We stayed for quite a while, but he was still at it when we left. What a funny bird. Have you ever seen one giving itself a dirt bath? He was having a great time!

This was a fun series of pics. I am curious about the band
on the leg in the first pic.

Bless you. Mel, for this delightful treat of the bathing Ptarmigan. So reassuring to know that he feels so safe in the near presence of us humans.

Becky, they are banded so they can keep track of them.
