This American Coot was eating in the grass by the bridge at Lake Estes. It was really cool to see him. I hadn’t seen one yet this year.

The American Coot is a member of the rail family and appears to be made from leftover pieces: it has the bill of a chicken, the feet of a grebe and the body of a duck. How funny is that? They can often be seen running across the water charging rivals.

Have you ever seen an American Coot?
