We hiked up to Gem Lake on Lumpy Ridge in Rocky Mountain National Park a couple of days ago and it was just gorgeous! The weather was perfect and there was very little ice on the trail.
I remember last year hiking about this time and needing crampons for the icy parts that never see the sun.
It was a picture perfect day and Gem Lake was just beautiful! It’s a great hike any time of the year and so close to our home. The views are always spectacular! Have you ever been there?

love the solitude. we were there in august 2011 as a first hike of our 10 day trip. lots of visitors plus a bus load of adventure camp kids. you took the photo at about where we ate lunch. the camp kids immediately scaled the wall across the lake.
Stunning, Mel! Puts me in mind of an amphitheater. I could imagine dramatic performances with excellent acoustics.
That’s the prettiest picture of Gem Lake I’ve ever seen…love the ice! The Lake usually reminds me of a big mud puddle in the summer…this is stunning!
