This little, white mushroom caught my eye while hiking at Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park last summer. It was tiny…not much bigger than my index finger. And when you looked up close you could see that it grew on a slender, thorny stem.
I’ve never seen a mushroom growing on a thin stem, never mind a thorny one. You can see the little thorns in the photograph.
I can’t seem to find its identification anywhere. Does anyone have any idea what it is? Maybe it’s not even a mushroom??
