Fortunately, there are numerous businesses and organizations that understand the meaning of cooperation in obtaining the best results for the Estes Park Businesses. Cooperation and alliances are the BEST form of business strategies to make an idea successful. If you shake the hand of your “brother businesses” and pledge cooperation, it becomes contagious and EVERYONE becomes successful.

Here are the businesses that have been awarded the thumbs-up award:
Safeway Supermarket: The Safeway Supermarket has donated significant wall space when you walk in the right entrance to the supermarket. This wall space will be used for all Enjoy Estes Park events, downtown association events and other important events that have to be announced by Enjoy Estes Park. Our thanks go out to the Safeway Supermarket.
Western 1-Hour Photo & Imaging: All the posters displayed in the Safeway Supermarket were donated by Western 1-Hour Photo & Imaging. With the professional posters printed by them, we were able to present Savor Estes Park to everyone in town. Our thanks go out to the Safeway Supermarket.
The Trail Gazette Newspaper: The Trail Gazette Newspaper has supported all the Savor Estes Park efforts by printing an article and festival map in 5 editions of the newspaper (and I might add giving prime space in the newspaper). Walt, the newspaper photographer, will be photographing Savor Estes Park and the newspaper will be printing followup articles about the success of Savor Estes Park. We appreciate the effort by The Trail Gazette and our thanks goes out to The Trail Gazette.
KEPL – 1470 AM Radio: The radio station announced Savor Estes Park during prime time on Kristie Welborn’s popular morning show. The radio station is going to announce Savor Estes Park for the next 3 weeks. Yesterday, Mel & I were interviewed on Kristie’s morning show to talk about Savor Estes Park as they realized how important it was for the Estes Park businesses. Our thanks goes out to KEPL – 1470 AM Radio.
The Estes Park Pie & Bakery: Val, from the Bakery, stepped up to the plate to help in the efforts of Savor Estes Park. I appreciate all the help from other business owners as it is a cooperative effort that makes an idea succeed. Our thanks goes out to the Estes Park Pie & Bakery.
The Estes Park Businesses: The Estes Park Businesses get a thumbs up for printing invitations, posters, maps, etc. from the PDF files available on the Internet and passing invitations out to the visitors and residents.
The Out-Of-Town Newspapers: The out-of-town newspapers read the press releases sent to them and thought it was a news worthy article for their newspaper. I met some visitors in Estes Park on Saturday that indicated that they would be leaving work early to drive to Estes Park and attend Savor Estes Park.
The Local Community: Our thanks to everyone in the local community that turned out for Thursday’s kick-off day and our thanks to all the locals that will attend in the next 3 weeks. We appreciate it.

Unfortunately, not all businesses and organizations do NOT step up to the plate and help out the Estes Park Businesses. In fact, some of the actions are actually detrimental to the success of an idea.
Here are the businesses that have been awarded the thumbs-down award:
The CVB: Every business that is a member of the CVB should have the same opportunity to place their event, festival or happening on the “Official Estes Park Calendar”. That does not seem the case. All calendar postings that are entered in the “Official Calendar” need approval by the CVB. I went down to the CVB on last Tuesday after the information was submitted into the “Official Calendar” and asked the CVB to include the Savor Estes Park event information in the “Official Calendar”. Unfortunately, NO INFORMATION ABOUT SAVOR ESTES PARK was included in the “Official Calendar”.
The CVB: The CVB gets their 2nd thumbs-down awards for not being able to communicate information to callers about “Savor Estes Park”. Numerous people, who attended Savor Estes Park, mentioned to me that they called the CVB to optain information about “Savor Estes Park” and every response from the CVB was “We do not know anything about this event!” The CVB is an organization that is supposed to be supporting and marketing the Estes Park Businesses???
The Estes Park NEWS: The Estes Park NEWS buried the announcement of Savor Estes Park, placing the announcement in the back of the newspaper (small article on page 34). They decided to give preference to a number of events that are being held 2 months from now instead of an event that is being held today. They even omitted the direction map from the article. Is that a positive approach in helping out the Estes Park Businesses?
The Organizations In Town: In the past 5 days or so, about 50% of all Savor Estes Park posters have been removed and replaced by 2 other events that are happening in the next 1 – 2 months. Those organizations get a HUGE thumbs down for removing marketing information that will benefit the Estes Park Businesses!
Despite all the thumbs-down awards, Savor Estes Park was a huge success and will be even a larger success next Thursday.
Comments appreciated.

Being a business owner for many years in Estes Park, the above information has occurred forever. It is a shame that everyone can not cooperate to help the business owners succeed. I appreciate the effort that Enjoy Estes Park has given to all the businesses of Estes Park. Perhaps, now that the issue is on the table, the newly-formed Downtown Business association can help solve this terrible problem.
I’m thrilled for the activities and events being held by the businesses of Estes Park. What we need is not control but cooperation. I think we need a massive paradigm shift in this town. If the town is to be successful then we need to stand by each other and actively promote each other. When people and organizations fight for control, power, money, or for their own well being above others, then we all lose. A shift from a control based approach to a more empowering and organic approach is happening throughout the business world. Organizations are realizing the power of alliances, cooperation, and mutual support. Many organizations in Estes Park are still living in the last century and have not yet learned the effectiveness and mutual benefit of value networks. Attempts to control or protect spheres of authority are actually not constructive, but are reminiscent of outdated business models which have proven themselves to be both ineffective and to foster conflict. I look forward to the day when the CVB, EP News, the town and others will not be threatened by new approaches and initiatives which “step on their toes” and “impinge on THEIR terrain” but instead these organizations begin to stand behind new initiatives and see them as complimentary to the work they are doing. The more that can be done to support this town the better, regardless of who controls it or initiates it. WE SHOULD NOT VIEW EACH OTHER AS COMPETITORS BUT AS PARTNERS WHO ARE ALL WORKING TO MAKE THIS TOWN IN WHICH WE LIVE A BETTER PLACE.
Erik,
Thanks for your intelligent reply. I totally agree with your view of the situation.
Phil, Thanks for sharing this information with the community. I don’t understand why the CVB is unable or unwilling to publicize this event, but I hope to hear more stories someday that the CVB is helping restaurants and local retailers instead of hindering them. With the Chamber of Commerce disbanding, more than ever business owners need to band together to get positive results from the CVB. Call the Trustees and the Town and demand action!
