The Bull Elk Were Sparring In Our Yard Here In Estes Park

It was past the rut season and there were about 8 Bull Elk in our yard off of the deck. Some were eating, a couple had just laid down for a rest and these two decided to spar. It was so much fun to watch as they were “practicing fighting.” What intrigued me the most was the high-pitched sounds they were emitting as they tangled with each other’s antlers. This went on for a good 20 minutes.

These certain 8 Bull Elk seem to hang out together throughout the winter and if you see one, you usually see them all. We nicknamed them “The Men’s Club.” It’s just fun to have them around.
