  1. Hi Mel,
We’re coming up to Estes Park next month for Memorial Day. My wife and I have been there many times, mostly in Sept. and Oct. never in May. It will be the first time to have all my family there. I’m getting a little concerned as what to expect as far as the weather is concerned. Will it moderate in the next 30 days or should I tell everyone to pack like a winter trip. We plan to hopefully, take some easy hikes, sight-see, introduce them to the park and go over the pass to Grand Lake. Your advise will be appreciated.

  2. Carlton, Sorry for the delay…I just found this in my spam. Memorial Day weekend could be anything. I’d look at the forecast before you come and pack lots of layers. While we got 2 and 1/2 feet of snow last week, tomorrow is supposed to be 70 degrees. If you plan to hike high in the park, I would be prepared for a lot of snow with layers of clothes and snowshoes or crampons. The mountains are pretty white. There is still a considerable amount at Bear Lake. Maybe a hike on Black Canyon Trail, Cub Lake Trail, Sprague Lake or Fern Lake Trail? They should be pretty clear of snow. A trip to Grand Lake, as long as Trail Ridge Rd. is open, which it usually opens that weekend, would be amazing with the HUGE snow banks! I hope you all have a blast. Please write back with any other questions. Mel
